Listowel opens its gates for the 2025 season

The three-day Bank Holiday meeting at Listowel gets underway this afternoon with a seven-race National Hunt card beginning at 1.55.

The Insurance Wise Handicap Hurdle is the feature at 4.13 and Miss Corby Free Flow and Long Gone are all bidding to follow up a maiden hurdle win this spring.

The highly regarded Maughreen looks set to go off a short-priced favourite against just three rivals in the opening Anglo Printers Remembering John H Kierans Mares Hurdle, while Sonnyboyliston is a fascinating runner in the Join The Listowel Races Supporters Club Maiden Hurdle.

The eight-year-old gelding has been very lightly raced since winning both the Ebor Handicap and the Irish St Leger in 2021 and now makes his debut over hurdles for Charles and Philip Byrnes.

The going at Listowel is currently described as good following watering over the past few days and there is the possibility of 1-2mm of rain today.

There is also a seven-race jumps card at Tramore with the evening fixture beginning at 5.10.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Kainsbourg has shown some useful form in winter maidens and may get his turn in the Group Packages And Discounts On tramoreraces.ie Maiden Hurdle (6.45), while Willie Mullins also has a number of strong chances on the card.

The going at the south-eastern venue is good to yielding following 1.5mm of rain. Selective watering is taking place with a dry forecast.
