Ballydoyle’s retained jockey Ryan Moore missed the Curragh’s meeting today through injury, with Wayne Lordan taking his place on opening John Ormonde Wexford Sand Irish EBF Maiden-winner Hawk Mountain (10/11f).

Moore was stood down from five rides today having been confirmed to have suffered a right femur fracture, with Derby-winner Lordan filling in and beginning on all-the-way winner Hawk Mountain.

The son of Wootton Bassett was briefly pressed by his pursuers with two furlongs to race but galloped gamely to the line and scored readily from Mr Vettori

Trainer Aidan O’Brien was winning the race for the ninth time in the last 16 renewals, and having briefed the press on Moore’s injury, then added “I’m delighted with Hawk Mountain and he came forward lovely from the first day

“He’s a lovely straightforward horse.”

Jockey Lordan has himself lodged an appeal against a costly 10-day whip suspension (September 9 to 18) incurred at Goodwood last Sunday, which would rule him out of Irish Champions Weekend and the English St Leger.
