M M D Sizer provided some relief for bookmakers by making a successful hurdling debut in the Follow @Tipperary Races On Twitter Maiden Hurdle.
The Jim Dreaper-trained gelding, successful on his only point-to-point outing at Farmacaffley earlier this year but soundly beaten in two bumpers, was easy to back and sent off at 16/1 in this three-mile event.
The Shirocco gelding made good headway early in the straight under Jamie Codd to head the odds-on favourite Call It Magic approaching the final flight.
He met the last all wrong but Codd soon had matters under control again as his mount was driven out to win by a length. Aimin For Anna could find no extra after two out to finish a further five lengths away in third.
Dreaper said, "He won well there and Jamie was happy all through the race. He missed the last but was still able to win.
"It was a pleasant surprise but we've still a bit to work out about him. He may have one more run before his summer break."
Dreaper reports his Crabbie's Grand National fifth Goonyella none the worst of his exertions at Aintree saying, "He's grand but needs a fifth gear and a fifth mile and ran exactly as we expected. He was just hanging on to them and just wasn't quick enough.
"He needs a year like the Red Marauder year but horse and rider came home safe and that's the main thing."
