Madrid added to Palace field

Madid was yesterday added to the St James´s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot next Tuesday at a cost of £18,000.

The unbeaten colt runs in the colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum, who also owns ante-post favourite Haafhd, winner of the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas.

Madid, trained by John Gosden, only made his debut last month, when he came from last to first to win a Newbury maiden.

He then made light work of stepping up to Listed class at Sandown last week with a half-length victory over Pastoral Pursuits.

Sheikh Hamdan has a third representative in the John Dunlop-trained Mukafeh among 17 horses remaining in the Group One contest following yesterday´s confirmation stage.

Bachelor Duke and Azamour, first and second respectively in the Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas but behind Haafhd at Newmarket, stand their ground.

Aidan O´Brien´s four-strong team is headed by Antonius Pius, who would have won the French 2000 Guineas but for colliding with the rail 75 yards from the finish when leading.

The Andre Fabre-trained Diamond Green, runner-up to eventual winner American Post in the Longchamp Classic, is the sole French entry.
