The late money provided highly significant as the Gordon Elliott trained Kenisa Sport ran out an impressive winner of the concluding Joe Rea Memorial Mares INH Flat Race at Downpatrick.

Supported from 5/1 down to 7/2 in the minutes before the off, the five-year-old delivered on the promise of previous efforts when scoring easily under Harry Swan.

Held up in mid division in the initial stages, the gamble looked to be going south as Swan was hard at work over half-a-mile out.

Responding to her riders urgings, Kenisa Sport went fourth over two-furlongs out. Still only third entering the home straight, the daughter of Affinisea looked to have plenty to do as Broomfield Aderra led Derryville

However, once asked for maximum effort, Kenisa Sport found an extra gear, sweeping around the outside to lead over 200 yards from the finish. Quickening up stylishly, she went right away to win by five-and-a-half lengths.

Harry Swan said: "She has (come home strongly).

"I just didn't want to force it too early, I knew they were going to go a nice gallop and I was happy to let her stay in her comfort zone the whole way.

"To be fair to her, she has progressed on every run and I knew she would stick at it today.

"She has a good attitude and probably a trip in time. She's a nice filly.

"Definitely (springs off that ground) - you look at her Gowran run compared to now, she loves this ground.

"They will have plenty of fun with her during the summer I'm sure."
