Marlborough holds on for maiden success Marlborough Place built on a promising first effort when opening his account at Limerick this afternoon. The AMO Racing-owned son of Showcasing had been third on debut at the Curragh early last month but was easy to back today, going to post 5/2 having been even-money in the morning. Billy Lee had his mount to the fore throughout and he asserted passing the two pole in the race, run over just shy of a mile. Angelight finished off well to press close home but failed by a head to peg back the winner. AMO’s Irish representative Ryan McElligott said:- “He had a nice first run at the Curragh a month ago. “I felt that the longer trip wouldn’t be a problem and quicker ground wouldn’t be a problem. “He’s done it nicely. Billy said he was still a little raw when he got left in front turning in, when Seamie’s horse dropped off him. “He’s done it nicely. I’d say coming back to seven would be no problem to him at all. “I suppose we’ll look for a rated race or a winners race next. He’s a nice horse and will improve more. He’s taken a little bit of time but he’s coming together.” It was a double on the card for Billy Lee following the opening race victory of No Alibi.
