Maximus aims to continue on upgrade Equus Maximus seeks to continue his steady rise through the chasing ranks Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase at Naas on Saturday. The nine-year-old was held in high regard by Willie Mullins as as a bumper horse but failed to fulfil that promise over hurdles, winning just one of his five starts. He got off the mark over the larger obstacles with a battling display at Punchestown and Mullins believes he is now beginning to come into his own. "He seems to be making good progress now. He is a horse I thought an awful lot of as a bumper horse but then he had a setback," said Mullins. "I think he might be coming back to the sort of horse we thought he was now and he is very decent. It's quite a hot race tomorrow and we will learn a fair bit from it. "I thought he did well in what was a good contest at Punchestown last time and if he comes on from that, he should go close. He will certainly love the ground."
