There was an unfortunate postscript to the Killarney Races Handicap Chase today, as winner Kilbrin Rocco (5/2f) returned lame, having provided trainer Eoin McCarthy with a welcome success.

Runner-up at last week's Listowel festival, Kilbrin Rocco travelled well through today's race and, under jockey Jack Kennedy, defeated Stoneyford Lady by 1.25 lengths.

McCarthy, who had enjoyed a breakthrough Grade 3 success at this summer's Galway festival, was out of luck at local Listowel last week and with Kilbrin Rocco returning lame, the trainer commented “Jack dismounted him after the line as there is an issue. He is a lovely horse and hopefully it's not too serious.

“Jack had given him a peach of a ride, he was very good and jumped like a buck. He hit the front at the right time, and he is just a lovely horse. That is his third win in 12 months and hopefully his injury isn't too serious.”
