McCourt considers Laytown opportunities

With September on the horizon, thoughts turn towards Laytown and Tom McCourt has a couple of horses in mind for the unique racing on the beach on Thursday week.

"I bought a horse called Yester in Newmarket and the plan is to run him in Laytown," he said.

"He lost his way in his last couple of runs, but he had a few very good runs in maidens before that. He was 75 rated at that stage. He's just the type of lad to go for a maiden down there."

Yester was runner-up in a Tipperary maiden for David Peter Nagle in August last year, and took third in a Leopardstown maiden for Adrian Murray in May.

Inishmot Prince has won twice over five furlongs on the sand in Dundalk back in February and March. He has been placed three times since then and is another who could find himself engaged at the yearly fixture.

McCourt, local to Laytown in Stamullen, said: "I'm toying with the idea of running Inishmot Prince. He has just been a bit quirky in the early parts of his races on grass - he is not travelling early on.

"We are going to give him one or two bits (of work) on the beach now in the next week and, if he looks happy enough, we will go down there."
