McCoy Picks Up Brook Ride

Tony McCoy has landed the plum ride on Ashley Brook in the William Hill - Tingle Creek Trophy Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

The ride on Kevin Bishop´s stable star became available when regular jockey Paddy Brennan broke his leg at Uttoxeter last week.

'Tony McCoy will ride him,' Bishop confirmed.

'I don´t think it will be necessary for him to sit on him before then, the horse is relatively straight forward and obviously he´ll have a chat with Paddy beforehand.

'All is well with the horse.' Speaking on At The Races, McCoy gave his reaction to the booking.

He said: 'Obviously I´m very pleased to get the ride on him.

'I think Mr McManus (his retainer) is going to have some runners at Sandown on Saturday which makes it possible.

'I´m looking forward to riding Ashley Brook because he was a very good novice and I´m sure he´s going to have a very good chance in the Tingle Creek.'

McCoy nominated Irish challenger Rathgar Beau as 'the one to beat'.

He continued: 'The fact Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop and Well Chief are all gone leaves the door open and there are plenty of horses there ready to take their chance.

'Rathgar Beau is coming over from Ireland and his form is pretty solid with Moscow Flyer, having beaten him at Punchestown last April, and then he was second to War Of Attrition.

'Rathgar Beau is a very consistent horse so he´s probably the one we all have to beat.' Ashley Brook finished third behind Monkerhostin and Kauto Star in the William Hill Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance at Exeter at the beginning of November.

'Monkerhostin is a pretty solid horse but I think he´s got a bit to find to be a top bracket champion chaser,' McCoy said.

'That´s no disrespect to him, his form is very solid, he was second in the Paddy Power and the Peterborough.

'It looks as though he´s going to run in the Tingle Creek and he´s going to have an obvious chance because he beat Kauto Star and Ashley Brook at Exeter.

'Kauto Star is obviously a very good horse. Ruby (Walsh) thinks he´s very good and Paul (Nicholls) thinks he´s very good but he´s still got it all to prove yet, he´s by no means a champion yet.

'So if you go on what horses have achieved the most, Rathgar Beau is probably the one to beat and if you go along with last season´s novice form, Ashley Brook has got as good form as any of the others.'
