Trainer Willie McCreery is on something of a fact finding mission with smart filly Jancis at Gowran Park on Wednesday evening.

An impressive winner of her first two starts, both at Leopardstown, the daughter of Tamayuz could never get competitive when towards rear in the Matron Stakes on her final run of the season.

With all three career outings to date having come at the Foxrock track, McCreery is keen to discover how his star filly will handle going right-handed on a different track.

Stepping up to ten-furlongs for the first time is also somewhat of an unknown but the Kildare man is keen to test his charges stamina before deciding on future plans.

“I’m keen to try here over a longer trip and run her somewhere bar Leopardstown as she’s only run at Leopardstown. I think the race suits her; he said.

“If she doesn’t stay we can always go back for the Group 2 (Lanwades Stud Stakes) at the Curragh on Guineas weekend over a mile. I’m keen to try as I also have her in the Pretty Polly over a mile and a two.

“She’s done very well over the winter and seems in great form. She likes the sun on her back and that bit of good ground will suit her.”

On Verpertilio, who is entered at Leopardstown on Sunday in the Al Shira’aa Racing ‘Mutamakina’ Stakes (Group 3 over 7f), McCreery added:

“The owners sponsor the race and will be keen to have a runner in it.

“I think it will be a stepping stone back to the Curragh on Guineas weekend, although which way we go there might depend on the ground.

“If it’s good we could run her there over a mile (in the Lanwades Stud Stakes) and if it comes up yielding or soft she could run over six in the Greenlands.”
