McDermott on the mend

Jockey Sean McDermott, injured in a fall from Curragh Grey in a handicap chase on Monday, attended the races at Listowel today and hopes to be back riding in two to three months.

Curragh Grey's heavy first fence fall left the rider with a fractured T7 vertabrae and with some minor damage to his T8 vertabrae.

Speaking today at Listowel, McDermott said "I was left out of Tralee hospital at 2.30pm yesterday and am comfortable at present althoug I have a bit of discomfort sleeping at night."

He added "next week I will see orthopaedic surgeon Tadgh O'Sullivan in Waterford and will then know more about how long I will be on the sidelines - hopefully I will be back in two or three months."
