McFadden to present Flat awards Irish rugby international Fergus McFadden will present the 2014 Flat Champion Awards at Leopardstown on Sunday. Tote November Handicap Day at the Foxrock venue marks the end of the flat turf season with Sue Magnier champion owner, Aidan O’Brien leading trainer for the 16th successive year (17th title in all), while Pat Smullen will be crowned champion jockey. Smullen is champion jockey for the seventh time, but lands his first title since 2010, and it’s the first time he has broken through the magical 100 winners in a season. Leading apprentice Colin Keane still has a chance to break Joseph O’Brien’s record of 57 wins set back in 2011. With three meetings remaining, Keane is on the 54 winner mark. Speaking about presenting the awards, McFadden said: “I grew up on the Curragh and so I have always followed racing and love a day at the races. “I have great respect for the achievements of our jockeys and trainers both at home and abroad and how they have enhanced Ireland’s racing reputation internationally. “It will be a great honour to present the Flat Champions with their titles on Sunday. I’m really looking forward to it.” Fergus will present the 2014 Flat Champions with custom-made perpetual Irish silver trophies after the Tote November Handicap race at 3.30pm.
