Review CLONMEL 24TH MAY

John Cullen was the star of the show when bagging a double at Clonmel on Thursday night.

Adastra Lad (13/8jf) looked a fortunate winner of the beginners chase after market rival Warrior Drive stumbled badly after the second last and deposited Roger Loughran.

Paul Nolan's charge was under pressure to challenge at the time but made the most of the opportunity, going on to score by four lengths from Shrewdness.

'I hope he's dropped after that as he has got a mark of 95,' said Nolan afterwards. 'He started off 87 last year and that's exactly what he is.'

Cullen went on to complete his brace aboard Katcharto Lady in the handicap hurdle.

Joanna Morgan's charge was produced to lead after the second last and stayed on strongly to score by a length-and-three-quarters from Lyical Assassin.

'She's in foal to Definite Article,' revealed Morgan. 'We'll enter her in a few Flat races as well as hurdles and hopefully she'll be able to win another one.'

The impeccably bred Downtown also enhanced her paddock value when gaining her brackets in the opening fillies maiden.

Wayne Lordan produced his mount to lead entering the straight and she galloped on strongly in the closing stages to pull away for a four-length success over City Of Cities.

The winner is a daughter of champions Danehill and User Friendly and trainer David Wachman said: 'We'll try to get some black type with her and she probably wants further.'

Davy Moran weaved his way down the inside to produce the well-backed Oxford City (11/2 to 4/1) inside the final furlong of the Cahir Handicap.

Frank Ennis' charge stayed on strongly to run out a length winner from Luzdeluna.

The Curragh handler has his string in fine form ahead of a two-pronged assault on the Irish 2,000 Guineas with Confuchias and Ferneley: 'The horses are in great form at the moment and I hope that it lasts until Saturday!'

The money also got it right with Nizamar (9/2 to 3/1f) who made all to run out a cosy three-length winner of the Knockmealdown Handicap under Seamus Heffernan.

'He's improving and loves that ground. There will be plenty of races for him over the summer,' said winning trainer Andrew Heffernan.

Punters pal Ruby Walsh was also on the mark when Prince Massini (6/4 to 4/5f) asserted late on to justify strong support in the Cashel Maiden Hurdle, beating Spaxdotcom by three-and-a-half lengths.
