Review CORK 4TH MAY

Absolutelyfabulous was 'home and hosed' before the Cork Stakes was even due off at the Mallow venue on Friday evening.

The runners jumped four minutes before the scheduled off time in the Listed event, but stewards allowed the result to stand after an enquiry.

David Wachman's filly gained valuable black-type when landing the sprint by half-a-length from That's Hot.

Wayne Lordan's mount struck for home inside the final furlong and held the late finish of That's Hot, who was denied a run until the last 100yds.

'If we were the second I would have felt very unlucky,' admitted Wachman. 'That's grand - she's a stakes winner now.

'I don't know where she'll go now. We'll see how see comes out of that. She's in all the sprints. Five furlongs at Naas last time was too sharp for her. Six or seven is her trip and there are plenty of races for her.'

Ger Lyons, trainer of That's Hot, had better luck in the opening juvenile maiden with the well-backed Remind Me Monday (5/4f) making an impressive winning debut.

Johnny Murtagh's mount cruised to the head of affairs a furlong-and-a-half out and quickened in style to record a two-and-a-half length verdict over Indiana Gal.

'He's a grand horse,' said Lyons. 'I don't necessarily like to see my horses start so short first time - it was a lot of paper talk. We're not a punting yard and the owner said he didn't back it.

'He's done his job. He's a good moving horse and that's the first step. We'll bring him home and see how he comes on. There are no big plans.'

Fancy Dance will be stepped up in grade after also making a winning debut in the 3-y-o fillies maiden for Dermot Weld.

Pat Smullen's mount stayed on nicely after leading over a furlong out to post a length victory over Downtown.

The winner is a full-sister to Ebor winner Tuning and trainer's son Chris Weld said: 'She's a nice filly and we'll go for some black type now.'

Merveilles travelled sweetly into the lead early in the straight in the Glantane Handicap and stayed on well in the closing stages to hold the late challenge of Galistic by half-a-length.

Michael Hourigan got himself off the 'cold list' when Chevaux Loco ran out a cosy winner of the Mount Ruby Handicap Chase.

Denis O'Regan gave the gelding a confident ride, holding on to his mount until the last fence before sprinting clear for a three-and-a-half-length success over Mareoflot.

'That'll put a smile back on my face again!' said Hourigan, whose last winner was Beef Or Salmon in the Hennessy. 'He's a horse that had promised everything and he has finally delivered. He'll go to Killarney now.'

Dbest (2/5f) looked to have a straightforward task in the beginners chase and duly made short work of his rivals to post an 18-length victory.
