Noel Kelly's Mister Vic shot clear of the field approaching the last to give substitute jockey Dara McGill a winner in Division 2 of the Sweeney Oil Handicap Hurdle.

Once the pair cleared that obstacle, the race was over as they bounded away by eight and a-half lengths at 8/1. Western Opera took the runner-up spot at 40/1, a head in front of Moonshine Girl (10/1).

This was Mister Vic's first outing since August last year.

McGill said: "I have been watching that horse work for the last six weeks. He was supposed to run at Kilbeggan, but didn't, and it was just luck today that I got on him.

"To be fair to the horse, he is honest and was very fit. He scooted away, but hopefully the handicapper isn't too sore on him and he could get another one.

"It is unfortunate on Luke, who was a pound or two over, as his dad Ryan owns the horse."

McGill replaced Luke Turner who was set to put up more than 2lb overweight, so wasn't permitted to ride.
