Money to the fore in Roscommon opener An encouraging fifth on debut at the Curragh, Spent All Me Money bounced back from a disappointing effort last time to take the opening Roscommon Claiming Maiden. In first time cheekpieces, the Jack Davison-trained bay was settled in mid-division by James Ryan and was a bit short of room from the two-furlong pole. Getting a dream run through on the inner and ridden with over a furlong and a half to go, the cleverly named No Nay Never bay shot to the front inside the final 150 yards and ultimately had two-and-a-half lengths to spare at the line. Running his best race to date, Sovereign Banter (25/1) filled the runner-up spot under Chris Hayes for Edward O'Grady, while Letters Of Love (5/1 from 11s) was another two-lengths back in third. Returned the clear favourite at 8/15, No Such Thing found little when ridden from the two-furlong pole and eventually finished sixth. "It was a nice ride, James used the head. He had to switch back in to follow the stronger finishing horses. The horse found the rail then on the inside and he picked up well right to the finish," Davison said of the Noreen Galvin and John Wade-owned victor. "He didn't enjoy the ground at Gowran. We thought he'd handle it but he didn’t. "This race came up and we thought it was a winning opportunity. Even though it is a claimer it's hard to pass up a winning opportunity when they come up in Ireland." No claims were lodged in the aftermath. STEWARDS REPORTS * The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined No Such Thing, trained by G.M.Lyons, at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. * J. Kearney, rider of Beat The Devil, trained by Patrick Magee, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung left throughout. Additional reporting by Gary Carson
