Mulvaney hoping Lady can step up to the task Grangcon Stud Stakes Preview Michael Mulvaney hopes Gwen Lady Byron can maintain her unbeaten record in Sunday's Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh. A daughter of impressive first-season sire Dandy Man, she landed a Dundalk maiden in taking fashion in April and Mulvaney had hoped to find her an easier opening than this. However, she suffered a small setback and now finds herself in Group Three company against the might of Coolmore and Jim Bolger. "I'm hoping for a nice run. She has improved a good bit since her win at Dundalk," said Mulvaney. "The plan was to run her in a Listed race at Naas at the beginning of this month but she had a setback, an overreach." Colour Blue was beaten just a head at Fairyhouse last time out by Aidan O'Brien's Wonderfully, a sister to Mars and seventh in the Albany at Royal Ascot last week. She was in front just yards from the line and trainer Willie McCreery is pleased to have Johnny Murtagh on board. "She was a bit unlucky on the last day and she'll like the ground," said McCreery. "I'm happy to get Johnny Murtagh, he is in red-hot form at the moment. Colm O'Donoghue was injured at Limerick last week and he would have been on her again. Fozzy Stack's Clenor is chasing black type but was in front of Colour Blue when they both made their debuts in May. "She is fine since her last run, she met with trouble there and she was unlucky. We would be delighted if she finished in the first three," said Stack. O'Brien runs Bye Bye Birdie, unplaced in the Queen Mary last week, and Bluebell, while Bolger is represented by Heart Focus. Pearl Earing for David Wachman and Supernatural for Charles O'Brien, complete the field.
