Murtagh lands plum Amerigo mount Johnny Murtagh will be aboard ante-post favourite Amerigo in the totesport.com Chester Cup on Wednesday. The Ballydoyle jockey comes in for the plum ride as the four-year-old runs in the colours of Mrs Gay Smith. Her husband, Derrick, is one of the key owners at Aidan O'Brien's Ballydoyle yard where Murtagh is stable jockey. "Johnny rides him. The horse is owned by Mr and Mrs Smith and I didn't realise at first that Johnny would be in the country," said trainer Michael Jarvis. It is bad luck on Neil Callan, who had been pencilled in to replace the injured Philip Robinson. Robinson is still feeling the effects of a heavy fall from Chief Editor in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The jockey may take the entire week off to recover from his tumble. "Repercussions of the fall have aggravated an old injury. He feels like he's been in a car crash at the moment," said his agent Shippy Ellis. "I suspect he'll be off for the rest of the week anyway."
