Johnny Murtagh is set to come out of retirement to ride in a charity race in aid of Irish Injured Jockeys at Limerick on April 25th.

The world-class jockey only retired in February 2014 to concentrate on training at his County Kildare base.

Owner-breeder Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, a patron of Irish Injured Jockeys, is also among a host of local, national and international racing celebrities keen to have a ride in the race.

He has been riding out and training hard to get fit to ensure his place.

Top Irish jumps jockey Ruby Walsh, chairman of the Irish Injured Jockeys, said: "We are thrilled that the race has received such interest and support and we're really looking forward to the charity raceday.

"The maximum field we can cater for is 14 runners so based on entries we might have to run two divisions on the day with a potential fundraising prospect of 28,000 euro which would be a great result for our injured riders."

The charity raceday will also honour multiple champion jockeys Tim and Martin Molony, the Limerick brothers who dominated the Irish and UK racing scene in the 1940s and 50s when a statue of them by Dublin-sculptor Paul Ferriter will be unveiled.
