Naas to get show back on road

Irish Racing is set to return tomorrow with Naas not foreseeing any problems ahead of their Saturday fixture.

It will be the first racemeeting in a fortnight and manager Tom Ryan is delighted with the state of the track after it recovered from the big freeze.

The card has attracted plenty of classy performers and Muirhead looks the star attraction in the Listed Limestone Lad Hurdle.

Alpha Ridge runs in the Grade 2 Woodlands Park Novice Chase, while Luska Lad turns out in the Irish Racing Writers Novice Hurdle.

“The track is mostly heavy at the moment but we are more than raceable. We're delighted with it,” said Ryan.

“There are only 63 horses due to run tomorrow so we don't foresee as much damage to the track as usual. There are only 15 runners over the chase track also, which is a huge help.”

Ryan added: “Everybody at Naas is looking forward to getting going again after the big freeze. I want to call on all horse racing fans to get out and support their local tracks. Come racing, we will be here to welcome you."

“We are delighted to continue our new admission policies for 2010, especially our admission bundle. All full admission customers will now get €10 back in value every time they spend €15 at the turnstiles.”

All full admission customers now receive a free €5 betting voucher and a €5 refreshment voucher at the turnstiles when they pay the €15 admission charge.

Heavy rain is forecast for tonight but Fairyhouse are also hopeful that racing should go ahead on Sunday.

“The going remains heavy here today with no overnight rain. We will be monitoring the rainfall that is forecast for tonight closely but fingers crossed we should be on track for Sunday,” said Fairyhouse manager Caroline Gray.

The feature race on the card is the Grade 2 Normans Grove Chase which sees the return to action of Rare Bob, winner of the Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown last April.

He faces stiff opposition in the shape of Scotsirish, who was a fine third behind Golden Silver at Leopardstown over Christmas.

“The entries for the Normans Grove Chase are top class and this race will be a great pointer to punters looking forward as the National Hunt season hots up,” added Gray.

Thurles have been forced to move Saturday's card to Sunday after the track was found to be unraceable this morning due to frost.

There will be a further 3pm inspection tomorrow to assess the situation.
