National course drying out

Andrew Tulloch, clerk of the course at Aintree, is contemplating undertaking 'selective watering' on the Martell Grand National course this afternoon (Wednesday) in preparation for the start of the big meeting tomorrow.

Having walked around before lunch, Tulloch said: 'The ground is good all over, though it is drying out a bit in one or two places, and, therefore, we might put the sprinklers on later today.

'Hopefully, that will be it with the watering, because the four or five millimetres of rain that we are being promised for Thursday night/Friday morning ought to do the job for us.'
