Sheila Lavery is lowering New Energy's sights after he was a beaten favourite in the Group 3 Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown.

Last season's Irish 2,000 Guineas runner-up made his seasonal reappearance in Foxrock last weekend, but didn't land a blow on the principals in fourth.

He holds an entry in the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury next Saturday, but Naas looks to be his next stop.

Lavery said: "I don't know what happened with him, there was no reason. We don't know whether it was the first run back in Leopardstown. We were a couple of weeks behind with him.

"He's been very good since. He could go to Naas for the Listed race over seven furlongs on 21st (Owenstown Stud Stakes).

"I have to find my way back with him a bit."

The trainer also gave an update on Moracana who was last seen winning the Listed Noblesse Stakes in Cork last month.

"I put Moracana in a Group 3 at Leopardstown (Saval Beg Levmoss Stakes on Friday) because you have to to see what's in, but there is a Listed race in the Curragh, so I think we will go for that," she said.

"That Group 3 looks like a Group 1.

"She's in great form."
