Jack Hobbs could run at Newbury in September in preparation for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe a month later at Longchamp.

John Gosden had identified the Prix Niel as the likely next staging post for the Irish Derby winner and Epsom runner-up, but he could end up competing much closer to home in the Group Three Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup.

The Clarehaven handler said: "Jack is back cantering and has had a nice holiday, which he needed as he didn't really get one in the winter as he ran in December. We're getting him ready for an Arc trial, either at Newbury or Longchamp."

Gosden added: "He looks big and strong and wants to mix it with Golden Horn again, but I keep having to tell him, 'know your place'."
