Newcastle Saturday set to go ahead Saturday's meeting at Newcastle is currently set to go ahead after passing an inspection on Friday morning. With parts of the course waterlogged, the track was deemed to be unraceable on Thursday afternoon, prompting clerk of the course James Armstrong to call an 8am inspection. He is pleased to report an improvement in conditions and has given the fixture the green light, although he is keeping his fingers crossed for a relatively dry 24 hours. Armstrong said: "Most of the track has dried out fine, but we're going to take out hurdle seven, which is the first hurdle in the straight, and we're also omitting the last fence again. "It will be testing, holding ground, but the forecast looks fairly positive at the moment, so hopefully we'll be all right. "We might get a shower, possibly a millimetre of rain, but that shouldn't cause us a problem. "If we get something that isn't forecast - up to three, four or five millimetres, that would be an issue, but we'll see what happens."
