Newcastle goes ahead

This afternoon's meeting at Newcastle goes ahead after the track passed a second inspection.

Clerk of the course James Armstrong had an initial look at 8am but was not satisfied with conditions after temperatures dropped below freezing overnight.

He called a further check at 10am and was pleased to confirm the track is now fit for racing.

He said: "We're racing, it has improved enough and we're happy with it.

"It's got up to 5C and while it is not particularly sunny, it's improved enough to race."
