Newfangled pulled up as Queen wins Lowther William Haggas' enjoyed a birthday treat as Rosdhu Queen landed the Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes at York this afternoon. The daughter of Invincible Spirit had warmed up for the Group 2 race with victories at Ripon and Newbury and shaving trapped out smartly, she still possessed enough at the finish to fend off the late thrusta of Baileys Jubilee and Royal Rascal. Haggas said: " That wasn't the plan, we were going to ride her for third and hope that we got lucky. "I don't normally run them back this quick but Steve Parkin who owns her is a Yorkshireman and so am I, so what have we got to lose? We may as well have some fun, it's what we do it for." Ryan Moore ordinarily rides the filly but his injury gave a chance to Richard Hughes who took full advantage. Hughes added: "Plan A was to drop her in and ride her to get the trip, but we landed in front and I wasn't going to pull her back. "'A furlong out I gave her a kick and she kept going." The even money favourite Newfangled was sent off a very warm order for this prize but John Gosden's filly appeared to lose her action badly after a furlong and was quickly pulled up. The filly was taken to the racecourse stables and was reported to have cracked her pelvis.
