Frodon will bid to retain the Grade One Ladbrokes Champion Steeplechase at Down Royal next Saturday for Paul Nicholls unless the ground becomes too deep.

The popular gelding rallied to beat Galvin by three parts of a length under Bryony Frost in last year's renewal.

Nicholl said on Racing TV: "He's a legend that horse. He was fantastic last year.

"The idea is to go (to Down Royal) unless the ground is too testing. He's in good shape and ready to go.

"Bryony gets on well with him.

"I think we have won the race five times."

The 10-year-old features among 13 entries for this €150,000 contest, the first Grade One over fences in the new season.
