O'Brien Runs Two In Belmont Derby Aidan O'Brien saddles Homesman and Whitecliffsofdover in the Belmont Derby on Saturday. The O'Brien duo are reported in good order ahead of the Grade One over a mile and a quarter at Belmont Park. Homesman, the mount of Colm O'Donoghue, drops back in trip after he finished fifth in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. Whitecliffsofdover was unplaced in the Jersey Stakes at Ascot, but had previously looked a useful horse on his seasonal debut at Newmarket. O'Brien told At The Races: "We've two colts in the Derby. "There's the horse that won the Free Handicap in Newmarket. He's stepping up to a mile and a quarter for the first time. "Homesman won over a mile and a quarter and then went up to a mile and a half and is obviously brought back (in trip). He ran well at Ascot from a bad draw. "He made up a lot of ground and you wouldn't say he didn't get a mile and a half. It was a great run and we were very happy. "He's by War Front so he should be very comfortable over a mile and a quarter. We think this race might suit him as well. "They've all done a canter at the track and TJ (Comerford, O'Brien's travelling head lad) is very happy with them." Oscar Performance and Yoshida are prominent in the betting for the Belmont Derby, while French trainer Pia Brandt saddles the hat-trick-seeking Called To The Bar.
