Joseph O'Brien and Joey Sheridan enjoyed a brace of winners on Gowran Park's card when Sweet Baby Zou did the business in the first division of the extended nine-furlong handicap for three-year-olds only rated 0-60.

Eyes were drawn to Sheridan's white cap in the straight as his mount travelled best of the field. Sheridan guided her into the lead outside the '2' pole and despite edging right, his mount asserted inside the final furlong. Roaming Coyote was the only horse able to live with Sweet Baby Zou in the final furlong and did keep on well in the closing stages, but the bird had flown as Sweet Baby Zou was a comfortable winner by a length and a quarter at 7/2. Roaming Coyote (4/1) filled the runner-up berth, more than five lengths clear of Cadreville (40/1).

O'Brien and Sheridan also took race three with Oscenity (7/2f).

“I think she enjoyed the bit of juice in the ground,” the trainer said.

“She ran in the north (Down Royal) last week and Joey felt the ground was very quick for her.

“We were happy enough to see the showers. We weren’t going to run here, to be honest, but when the few showers came we said we’d let her take her chance.

“We stuck the headgear (first-time cheekpieces) on her too, which helped her.

“They have to eventually find their grade and then they get competitive. She found her grade and we learned in Down Royal that she’s probably best with a bit of juice.”
