Joseph O’Brien is hoping for a good show from Sons And Lovers in the Ladbrokes Ormonde Stakes at Chester on Thursday.

The Study Of Man gelding was last seen finishing fourth in Group 2 company at Meydan in late March, having won a valuable handicap prize in Riyadh the previous month.

Despite this being a Group 3 event now, it looks like a stiffer test for the five-year-old with Ballydoyle pair Jan Brueghel and Illinois chief among his rivals.

“We’re hoping for a good run. It looks like a deep race, in fairness,” said O’Brien.

“We think he’ll handle the track well. He won on a tight left-handed track in Saudi (Arabia), so he should handle the track.”
