Joseph O’Brien's Al Riffa is set to reappear in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at ParisLongchamp this weekend before a possible tilt at the Tattersalls Gold Cup.

The former National Stakes winner has been off since taking the runner-up berth in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano in Deauville last August. The form of that race received a massive boost when the winner, Ace Impact, followed up in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

O'Brien said: “He’s in good form and will run in the Ganay next weekend and could potentially go for the Tattersalls Gold Cup (at Curragh in May) after that.

“He’s been a bit unlucky as he’s just had two holdups, but they have come at a bad time.

“He had a bad scope and an infection before the Guineas and the evening before the Champion Stakes he had a setback again.

“It’s just been bad timing, but his form couldn’t have worked out (better) in his run in France.

“The Ganay has been the target for a while and he’s had a good preparation.”
