Aidan O’Brien bids for his 23rd Group 1 win of the year as the master of Ballydoyle mounts a powerful three-pronged challenge in the William Hill Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon.

Christophe Soumillon again takes the mount on impressive Leopardstown Group 2 winner Benvenuto Cellini, while Action and Hawk Mountain also hold strong claims in this mile test.

The Gosden-trained Oxagon looks the only serious rival with Rochfortbridge completing a five-runner line-up.

The Irish were out of luck at Cheltenham yesterday but there is an even bigger raiding party there this afternoon with 29 Irish-trained runners at Prestbury Park.

Henry de Bromhead’s The Short Go heads the market for the featured William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase, while Gordon Elliott’s Three Card Brag has also attracted support for the £100,000 3m1f event.

There is also jumping action at Galway this afternoon with a seven-race card beginning at 1.53 and the going is currently described as yielding on the hurdle course and yielding, yielding to soft in places, on the chase track.

There are showers forecast both today and tomorrow with approximately 2-4mm of rain.
