O'Brien trio in final field for English Leger

There were no defections at the 48-hour declaration stage for Saturday's Ladbrokes St Leger with all eight entries standing their ground.

That leaves Aidan O'Brien with three in the race having declared Bondi Beach, Fields Of Athenry and Order Of St George, who was last seen winning a trial for the Irish St Leger at the Curragh.

William Haggas' Storm The Stars has been fancied for this ever since chasing home the John Gosden duo of Golden Horn and Jack Hobbs in the Derby at Epsom in June.

He gained an overdue success in the Great Voltigeur at York, narrowly beating Bondi Beach, and will aim to give jockey Pat Cosgrave a first Classic victory.

Ralph Beckett and Qatar Racing took the step to supplement Simple Verse earlier in the week and she will aim to become the first filly to come out on top since User Friendly in 1992.

David Brown's Medrano will have Fergal Lynch back in the saddle, Richard Hannon runs Proposed with Pat Dobbs on board, while there is a sole challenger from France, the Mikel Delzangles-trained Vengeur Masque.

Delzangles has already tasted British Classic glory before, when Makfi won the 2000 Guineas in 2010.

Frankie Dettori had been linked with the ride on Bondi Beach but will not now be in action at Doncaster.

He will head straight to Leopardstown to partner Derby winner Golden Horn in the Irish Champion Stakes after the Group One showpiece at the Dublin track was brought forward 65 minutes, from 6.50 to 5.45.

With the St Leger not due off until 3.45 it would have left Dettori little time to fly over to Ireland.

"We can only go one place. There's not sufficient time to ride in both races," said his agent Ray Cochrane.

"There is, but you'd be putting people through a lot of sweat, so we're going straight to Leopardstown.

"There's nothing any of us can do about the weather. We want to do the best for the people we're riding for. It's as simple as that.

"Frankie had rides in the first four races at Doncaster, the last one being in the Leger and then we were going to shoot over to Ireland and be there in good time.

"Now they've changed it by bringing it forward there's no point thinking of trying to do both.

"Frankie's had a good run with John Gosden and Golden Horn is the best ride he's got all year.

"He's riding Golden Horn and Euro Charline at Leopardstown and then more likely Frankie will ride in France on Sunday."

In Dettori's absence, William Buick, who rides predominantly for Godolphin, has been been booked to ride Bondi Beach in the season's final Classic.

Ballydoyle jockey Colm O'Donoghue will partner Order Of St George, while title-chasing Brazilian Silvestre de Sousa will get the leg up on Fields Of Athenry.
