One Cool Cat on target for Curragh return

One Cool Cat makes his eagerly awaited return to the racecourse in Saturday’s Ladbrokes.com International Stakes at the Curragh.

Aidan O’Brien’s star is one of 17 entries for the 80,000 euro feature which includes five overseas challengers.

The son of Storm Cat has not been seen since finishing down the field in the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, but his trainer is confident that he back to his best and a big performance is expected by the Ballydoyle team.

Amongst his likely challengers on Saturday are the John Dunlop – trained Mukafeh, Mick Channon’s Jazz Scene and Fokine, which is trained by Barry Hills who won this race with Distant Relative in 1989 and Distant Music in 2001. Richard Hannon, meanwhile is doubly represented by Kings Point and Sgt Pepper.

The 100,000 euro Ladbrokes Rockingham Handicap is the main supporting

contest on Saturday and has attracted 21 entries including the Kevin Ryan trained Halmahera. In what promises to be a highly competitive contest, other entries include last year’s winner Assigh Lady, Osterhase and Ulfah, who both scored over course and distance at the Budweiser Irish Derby Festival last month.

The much touted Mona Lisa is one of 24 entries for the opening Ladbrokes.com EBF Fillies Maiden, while her trainer Aidan O’Brien is also represented by Drama, Full Moon Tonight and Silk and Scarlet. Meanwhile John Oxx has entered four, Deyrnia, Missalonghi, Rose Thistle and Zarata, for the 7 furlongs contest, while Irish Derby winning trainer Dermot Weld is represented by both Midnight Mist and Wilderness Bay.
