Our Vic is retired

David Pipe branded Our Vic an "amazing horse" after time was called on the 12-year-old chaser's career.

The David Johnson-owned veteran won 14 of his 35 races throughout a fantastic career which included big-race victories in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, the Charlie Hall and the Ryanair.

However, he will probably be best remembered for getting the better of the brilliant Kauto Star in a fantastic renewal of the totesport Bowl at Aintree in 2008.

"He's been an amazing horse for me, my father and the Johnson family throughout the years, but he is now telling us that he is ready for retirement," Pipe told his website, www.davidpipe.com.

"He will be a teenager in January, and his joints are giving him a little trouble and after all he has done for us, it is time for us to look after him.

"Our Vic was campaigned at the highest level throughout his career and won on no less than 14 of his 35 starts, including the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and the totesport Bowl at Aintree where he got the better of an amazing tussle with Gold Cup winner Kauto Star.

"He will be extremely difficult to replace, but he has earned his rest and we all hope that he enjoys the long and happy retirement that he so richly deserves."
