Outback Traveller provided trainer Robert Cowell with his second Royal Ascot winner of the week with victory in the ultra-competitive Wokingham Stakes.

The Newmarket-based sprint king landed the Norfolk Stakes on Thursday with Prince Of Lir and his latest representative obliged at 10-1 coming back in trip having struggled over longer distances of late.

Martin Harley's mount raced in the stands-side group and finished off his race well to get the better of joint-favourite Brando by a head.

Glen Moss and Absolutely So finished third and fourth respectively.

Harley said: "I rode him over seven the last day here and got there way too soon.

"I came in and said to Robert I think he'll win the Wokingham."

Cowell said: "We do what we do (with sprinters), I don't know what it is but it seems to work. I'm a bit flummoxed by the whole thing. We have a certain way of training and it suits horses.

"I try to put speed into horses rather than trying to get them to stretch out, or maybe bring them back to their two-year-old days when most horses were sprinters.

"I wouldn't mind dropping him back to five, I think he's absolutely nailed on to win something quite nice over five. I think six is just about stretching it in this company, but I think dropping him to five he could be even better."

Asked to sum up his week, Cowell added: "To come away with two winners is pretty remarkable.

"It's absolutely mind-boggling, and will take a long time to sink in."
