Born To Sea is set to drop down in trip to a mile and a quarter for his next race after finishing second to Camelot in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

The John Oxx-trained colt made the step up from a mile in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot to a mile and a half in the Curragh Classic.

But he proved it was not beyond him by running the multiple Classic winner to two lengths in testing conditions.

Oxx now plans to run the Invincible Spirit colt, a half-brother to the brilliant Sea The Stars, in the Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes back at the Curragh on August 12.

"He's improving every time he goes out, he's running a better race and we just have to fiddle around and find the right distance," said the Currabeg handler.

"We'll run him next over a mile and a quarter in the Royal Whip at the Curragh."

Meanwhile, Akeed Mofeed, who was fourth for the Oxx team in the Irish Derby on his first run since September, could go back to a mile for his next race.

Oxx is eyeing the Listed Platinum Stakes at Cork on August 5, which he won last year with Alanza, for the Jaber Abdullah-owned three-year-old.

"He's in good shape. The Derby didn't tell us much. He blew up, as we kind of thought he'd do, but he had a race at least and we got him back on the track," said the trainer.

"He ran well and we'll probably run him in the Platinum Stakes at Cork over a mile on August 5. We'll start him back in that Listed race."
