Paddy Power on the agenda for Shanpallas The weather will dictate whether Shanpallas attempts to improve on his sixth place in last year's Paddy Power Gold Cup in this season's renewal at Cheltenham next Saturday. Trainer Charles Byrnes believes the seven-year-old must have decent ground to be seen at his best. Winner of the Munster National in 2014 he was brought down early in the same race this year. "We are considering the Paddy Power Gold Cup for Shanpallas but nothing is definite yet," said Byrnes. "We just want to see what the weather does and, if the ground is nice, he will probably run. "He ran well at Cheltenham last year, which is why we are looking at going back. He was bang there jumping the last but just got tired in the ground. "We'd be hoping for another good run but the Paddy Power is always very competitive and you can't expect anything more than that."
