Partial success for Quinn Richard Quinn gained a partial victory in his appeal against the five-day ban he picked up for his riding of Play That Tune at Kempton last week. The Jockey Club`s disciplinary committee still found him guilty of irresponsible riding of a minor nature but cut his suspension to three days. The committee found that Play That Tune, trained by Henry Cecil, had interfered with Zither, ridden by Richard Hughes, approaching the final furlong in the European Breeders Fund Maiden Fillies` Stakes approaching the furlong marker.Play That Tune finished second, beaten two lengths by Londonnetdotcom with Zither a further two and a half lengths away in third. After listening to evidence from both jockeys and watching the race, the committee attributed the interference to Quinn`s irresponsible riding. The committee were of the opinion that Quinn had made his challenge up the rail thereby widening a gap which never looked like being big enough. And Quinn`s explanation that he was already in the gap and his filly rolled into Zither was not borne out by the evidence. The committee felt that the interference was of a minor nature and that it had not improved Play The Tune`s placing in relation to Zither. It upheld Quinn`s appeal in part and suspended him from riding for three days (June 19, 20 & 22) and ordered his deposit to be returned.
