A winner over hurdles at Down Royal on St Patrick's Day, Pat's Legacy was a 20/1 winner on seasonal debut in Wexford's William Hill Challenge Series Irish EBF Beginners Steeplechase over two miles, three furlongs.

Returning from almost six months off and having his first run over the larger obstacles, the Walk In The Park six-year-old raced close to the pace under Paddy O'Hanlon and was second at halfway. In front before two out, the Ronan Murphy-owned bay stayed on well to fend off Kir by three-parts of a length.

"He was a big raw horse last year and we just took our time with him as it took a while for the penny to drop,” said winning trainer Ian Donoghue.

“He's strengthened up plenty for his break.

“Hopefully he'll have a big winter ahead of him. We said he'll need four runs for the Irish National, so that's the first one out of the way!"
