Flemens Intrest left his previous ‘track’ form well behind when running out a cosy winner of the first division of the 0-100 handicap hurdle at Limerick for trainer David Barry.

The Flemensfirth gelding, a point-to-point winner back in April 2023, had been well beaten in four hurdle runs and was making his first start since January of last year.

He went to post a 14/1 shot today and travelled smoothly to dispute before the straight in the two-mile-three contest.

John Shinnick sent his mount on after the second last and the nine-year-old was always doing enough late on to score by two lengths from 25/1 shot Midnight Fairy

"He had a few problems along the way but this was worth waiting for. John Cotter (owner) bred the horse and in fairness to him, he has been loyal to the horse, so it is nice to get this return,” said Barry.

"He won a point to point, he had a good run in a maiden hurdle so brought that back today: he had only one bad run.

"I thought he'd be in the first four or five today but would come on from the run but happy days. We might run him here again next week or go to Ballinrobe.

"We tip away with point to pointers and a few for the track and do it for fun."
