Kinbara Hills came with a late surge to grab the spoils in the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at Sligo, for northern handler Sammy Wilson.

Paddy O’Brien settled out the back on the 8/1 shot in the early stages before making ground up going to the second last.

The Hillstar gelding finished off well on the run-in to get on top close home and beat front-runner Mrs Biddle by a length-and-a-quarter.

"I wasn't surprised. He's a big horse that's improving a lot,” said Wilson.

“I got him from the Crawford boys, they'd been very patient with him and he's a horse that just needed a bit of time. We gave him that time and we've been rewarded.

"I'm delighted for the owner (Linda Wilson) who's never had a winner before.

"He can take a bit of a bite and he hadn't been finishing out his races, but Paddy gave him a gem of a ride.

"I'm based in Comber and this is the only horse I have for the track at the moment."
