Pique Sous close to comeback Talented dual-purpose performer Pique Sous is set for an imminent return to action after coming close to death when suffering a bout of colic last year. The Willie Mullins-trained nine-year-old became a flagship horse for the Supreme Racing Club by winning three bumpers and finishing third in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and he is also a Grade Two winner over hurdles. He was last seen running away with a valuable Leopardstown handicap on the Flat last September, but just days later was taken ill and his life hung in the balance. Thankfully, the grey has made a full recovery and is pencilled in to make his comeback at either Cork on Friday or the Curragh on Sunday. Supreme Horse Racing's manager, Steve Massey, said: "We're keeping our options open, but I think he will probably run somewhere this week, as long as the ground doesn't go really heavy. "I think everyone knows by now he's a horse who wants good ground, but he's ready to run and he looked in great shape when I saw him last week. "The Cork race is a mile and a quarter and the race at the Curragh is a mile and a half. We don't really know what trip he'll want on the Flat at this stage. He has plenty of speed, but I think a mile and a quarter will probably be the bottom end trip-wise. "I think we'll all be delighted to see him back on the racecourse after the illness he suffered last year. He's a horse we love to bits, for obvious reasons. "Having been off the track since September, he will obviously improve for his first run and we'll make a plan from there. "We hope he's got a big future on the Flat, but he'll obviously have to improve to reach the top level in staying races."
