Polos takes Exeter feature

Tchico Polos won the Totesport.com Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter after holding off Twist Magic in the closing stages.

The winner, trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Ruby Walsh, looked beaten turning for home but he rallied well to pick up the lead jumping the second-last fence.

Having seen off I'msingingtheblues and Somersby, he then had to dig deep to repel stablemate Twist Magic and land a 3-1 success.

Twist Magic, giving over a stone in weight to all of his rivals, was second at 16-1, giving his trainer a one-two in the race.

Somersby, sent off the 9-4 favourite, ran a promising race before getting tired and had to settle for third spot, whilst Cornas was well backed but put in a laboured display down the field.

Walsh said: "I knew when I was off the bridle they were going a hell of a gallop. It was quick, but it's a two-mile race and that's what you get.

"All I wanted was a good gallop and we got that. I heard the commentator saying Twist Magic was coming and I thought I was on the wrong one. But in fairness to the horse, he battled on when Twist Magic came to him."
