Point Lynas Earns Silver with Spirited Summer Mile Effort

Point Lynas turned heads with a valiant front-running display in Saturday’s Group Two Summer Mile at Ascot, finishing second at odds of 22-1.

Under a daring ride from Jamie Spencer, the six-year-old nearly made all, only to be caught late by Never So Brave He crossed the line just three-quarters of a length behind the winner, beating several highly regarded rivals in the process.

“It was an inspired Jamie Spencer ride and the horse ran his heart out,” said trainer Ed Bethell. “He split two Royal Ascot winners and two proper racehorses... it was a brilliant run.”

Bethell praised the gelding’s form and attitude, especially as he continues to perform strongly with age: “You don’t do what he does and only be beaten three-quarters of a length if you’re not in good form.”

Goodwood or York May Be Next for In-Form Veteran

Looking ahead, Bethell outlined several possible options for Point Lynas' next run:

“We’ll have a look at the Listed race he won at Pontefract last year (Pomfret Stakes) in a couple of weeks’ time.

Following that, the team is eyeing either the Celebration Mile at Goodwood or the Strensall Stakes at York as potential late-summer targets, as Point Lynas continues to prove he belongs among strong company.
