Port Louis there for Hassett when he needs him Port Louis got the split he wanted in claiming the apprentice handicap over a mile in Cork. He stayed on into contention behind the leaders outside the final furlong and Wayne Hassett switched him right with 200 yards to travel. The four-year-old gelding was a willing partner and ran on to take over in the closing stages. He won by a length at 9/1 from Unterberg (14/1). Lough Leane (5/1) was a short head away in third. Hassett said: "Noel (Meade) told me he can be quirky and keen, and I didn't want to interfere with him too much. I gave him a little rein, didn't touch off his mouth, and it worked out lovely as we went a good pace. "We went a good gallop as the rider in front lost her irons (Orla Tynan on unplaced Rock Etoile) and I stayed in behind horses for as long as I could. Overall when I needed him, he was there and kept galloping away." Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
