Power reflects on Grade 1 glory aboard Master McShee Master McShee is among thirteen horses still entered for the Grade One Ladbrokes Novice Chase at Leopardstown on Sunday and regular partner Ian Power has been reflecting on his victory on Paddy Corkery’s gelding at Limerick over Christmas. Power, who had given up race-riding for several years before returning to competitive action in 2019, got the Malinas gelding up on the line to pip Farouk D’alene in the BoyleSports Faugheen Novice Chase in the St. Stephen’s Day feature at Greenmount Park. It was a first success at the highest level for both forty-year-old Power and dairy farmer Corkery who trains just a handful of horses under restricted licence in Villierstown, Co. Waterford. Dungarvan-based Power told journalist Dave Keena: ”I suppose from everything I went through myself to where I am now, and to be able to have something like that and appreciate it is great. "I suppose if it had happened fifteen years ago, I’d never have appreciated it like I do now. "It’s even more special to do it for someone like Paddy (Corkery). He could have anyone riding the horse, especially in small fields like that in big races, and to be able to repay him for standing by me was absolutely incredible. To get as far as winning a Grade One, I didn’t expect any of this to come my way” The Limerick victory for Master McShee was achieved on just his second start over fences and he’s currently a best price of 8/1 for Sunday’s 2m5f contest for which Willie Mullins’ Galopin Des Champs is a short-priced favourite at a general 1/2.
