President Michael D. Higgins will attend Liscarroll point to point races on Sunday, the same Co Cork town being the birth-place of his mother.

Higgnins' mother Alice Canty was a native of Liscarroll and on Sunday, March 25, the local committee will welcome Ireland's ninth President, himself born in Limerick, as special guest.

Liscarroll Committee today reported "President Michael D. Higgins has very close connections with the village of Liscarroll in North Cork where his mother was born and it is a great privilege for our Point to Point Club and the local hinterland to have the President attending the annual racing event."

The first race for the annual race day is 2:00pm
