Purview showed his undoubted class when getting the better of six rivals in the feature at Cork this afternoon, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Navigation Stakes.

Second to Delacroix in the Cashel Palace Hotel Derby Trial at Leopardstown in May, the Dermot Weld-trained bay was sent off favourite in two subsequent starts, failing to deliver on both occasions.

Sent off an 11/5 favourite this afternoon (drifted from 5/4 early), the 110-rated victor raced mainly in fifth under Colin Keane, taking closer order on the outer with over a quarter of a mile to go.

Ridden to the front from the furlong pole, the Kingman colt soon stamped his authority on proceedings and drew clear in the closing stages to score by a length-and-a-quarter.

Returned at 4/1, Cadogan filled the runner-up spot under Dylan Browne McMonagle, while Iowa City (11/2) was a further two-lengths away in third.

"It was a pleasing performance and he is a very talented colt. We thought today's race would suit him and thankfully it has worked out well. Colin gave him a lovely ride," Kris Weld, son of the winning trainer, reflected.

"He had only won a maiden prior to today and deserved that, as his form earlier in the year was top drawer. Things didn't pan out in the Meld Stakes but that can happen and he showed today what he was capable of.

"We hadn't looked beyond today and Dad will have a word with the Abdullah family and Barry (Mahon, racing manager) and come up with a plan. Hopefully it is onwards and upwards now."
